“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission” (CCC 1213, see also Mathew 28:19, John 3:5, Acts 10:47-48, Acts 2:38-39, Bible/Early Church References link etc)
a) Children's Baptism:
Parents who wish to have their children baptized may attend a Baptism Seminar. They may then register their children for Baptism by submitting the seminar participation certificate along with the couple’s marriage certificate obtained from the Church. If the child’s godparents do not belong to the parish, a letter must be submitted.
b) Adult Baptism:
Those adults who wish to be baptized or received into the Catholic Church can inquire at the parish office. The Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) course is conducted once every year and meets on a weekly basis. The course typically begins in September and concludes with the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil Mass the following year.
"At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet 'in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.'" (CCC 1323, see also Luke 22:19, John 6:53, 1 Corinthians 11: 23-30, Acts 2:42, Bible/Early Church References link)
Children who wish to receive Holy Communion must be enrolled for Catechism classes. Children complete their First Confession late in Grade 3 and receive their First Holy Communion in Grade 4.
"Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion." (CCC 1422, see also John 20:22-23, 2 Corinthians 5:18-20, Mathew 18:18,Bible/Early Church References link etc).
“The reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For by the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed." (CCC 1285, see also Acts 8:14-17, Acts 19:5-6,Bible/Early Church references link etc)
- Children receiving Confirmation have to undergo a preparation. The Sacrament of Confirmation is administered only to those who are enrolled in the Catechism classes. Preparations for Confirmation begin in Grade 7 and students receive the Sacrament of Confirmation usually during Pentecost which coincides with the end of Grade 8.
"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament." (CCC 1601, see also Mathew 19:5-6, Mark 10:7-12,Ephesians 5:22-32, Malachi 2:13-16,Bible Reference Link etc).
